How to Reach High Kitchen Cabinets

How to Reach High Kitchen Cabinets

If you’re like me, you might have a bunch of stuff stored in your high kitchen cabinets. And it probably hasn’t been cleaned out since you moved in. It can be difficult to reach your kitchen cabinet shelves to rearrange them and put them back in order. The other day, I decided to tackle the problem head-on and find a solution for my messy cabinets! Here’s what I found out about how to reach high kitchen cabinets.

How to Reach High Kitchen Cabinets

For tall kitchen cabinets, the best way to reach them is to use a step stool. You can find a step stool that adjusts to the height of your cabinet and then get to work on cleaning it out! But if you don’t have a step stool, there are some other options. If you have very high cabinets, you could try using a folding chair or ladder. The other option is to get somebody taller than you to help you reach them.

The next time I clean out my cabinets, I’ll be ready for anything!

Tips for Cleaning out Your Cabinets

First things first, take everything out of your cabinets and spread it out on the floor. This will give you a chance to see what you have in there. You might want to take this opportunity to also clean out your fridge, freezer, and pantry.

Next, go through your items and make piles for donation, trash, and “maybe”. Don’t forget to make room for the new items! Make sure that you put all the items back in their original spots once you’re done. You don’t want to spend hours cleaning up only to turn around and do it again because you didn’t organize it properly.

Finally, if there is anything that you need but can’t reach or move (like a box of cereal or a bag of flour), consider moving it down one shelf so that it’s easier to get at with a step stool. You can also get creative with using baskets and containers to store items in hard-to-reach places in your cabinets.

How to Choose the Right Cabinet For You

There are a few different types of cabinets you can use to store your kitchen goods. Tall, vertical cabinets are good for storing pots, pans, and lids. And low cabinets with open shelving work well for storing spices and cooking oils.

Here’s another way to think about what type of cabinet you need:

Do you have a lot of cooking equipment?  If so, you may want a tall cabinet where everything is easy to reach.

Do you have lots of spices or oils? You’ll want a low cabinet with open shelving where everything is visible and easy to find.

What is your budget?  Some cabinets can be expensive, so it’s important to take cost into consideration.

How much storage do you need? If your kitchen has a lot of counter space, then you might not need as much storage as someone who doesn’t have much counter space to work with.

Where to Put Items in Your Kitchen Cabinet

First, you’ll need to decide where to put items in your kitchen cabinet. Found that I had a lot of spices and condiments that I use less often on the top shelves. I decided to store the ones I use more often (like cooking oils) on the bottom shelf for easy access.

I also found that some of my pots and pans were at the back of my cabinet, making them more difficult to find. So, I moved them closer to the front so they were easier to get to.

Finally, I found that some of my dishes were just sitting in stacks on my kitchen counter because they weren’t easily accessible in my cabinets. So, I moved them all into the cabinets and put them away neatly based on the size and type of dishware.

What are the Challenges of Reaching your High Kitchen Cabinets?

The major problem with reaching your high kitchen cabinets is that you have to stand on a chair. This makes it difficult to clean them out and put them in order. It can also be difficult if you have an injury or mobility issue that prevents you from standing for long periods of time.

The other challenge is that many of us don’t want to spend the money on a ladder or step stool. And there are some challenges to using a step stool because it’s hard to get the right height when you’re standing on it. It can be expensive and inconvenient to buy a ladder or step stool just for this purpose, but luckily there are some other solutions!

How to find the Right Height for your Kitchen Cabinets

The first thing you need to do is find the right height for your kitchen cabinets. This is important because if your cabinets are too low, you might not be able to reach them on your own. If they’re too high, you can hurt yourself when trying to reach items in the back of the cabinet.

The next step is to remove everything from the cabinets so you have a clean slate! You might want to take an inventory of what you currently have in the cabinets, so you know where to put everything after cleaning and reorganizing. The last step is to figure out how best to place your dishes, pots and pans, food storage containers, glasses, and other items on the cabinet shelves.

If your high kitchen cabinet shelves are a mess, it’s time for a good cleaning! After tackling one cabinet at a time, be sure to store all of your most-used cooking essentials in that particular cabinet. A few hours of work will reward you with a new and improved kitchen layout!

Ideas to help you Organize your Cabinet Shelves

The first thing I did was clean out my cabinets. I removed everything from the shelves and threw it away, organizing the things that were left in my cabinet into different piles: items for donation, items for sale, and items for storage. I also took down all of the pictures on the wall that was near my kitchen because I had a feeling that they might be in the way of reaching my high kitchen cabinets.

Next up, I got rid of anything that wasn’t necessary or useful to me. For instance, I don’t use spices very often, so those went with all of the other miscellaneous items for donation. This gave me more space to put back some dishes that were hidden behind other things and made more room on my shelves.

I then used pieces of cardboard to prop up heavy items like pots and pans so they wouldn’t get in the way when reaching high kitchen cabinets. The last step was to rearrange your dishes to make room on your lower shelves on top. You can keep a few dishes on these lower shelves if you want but it’s best not to overfill them (that will just make it harder to reach your cabinet).

Hang on to your Old Furniture

One of the easiest ways to reach your high kitchen cabinets is to use an old chair or stool. The kitchen cabinets in my home are around six feet tall and I’m five feet tall, so this was a perfect way for me to reach the high shelves.

If you don’t have any old furniture lying around, then you could also get a stool from your local hardware store or order one online. Make sure that it’s stable enough for you to stand on if you need to clean the cabinets or rearrange anything that is stored up there.

Adjustable Gadgets

If you’re like me and don’t want to climb up on a chair to reach your high kitchen cabinets, then there are adjustable gadgets that can help. The first one I found was the Adjustable Kitchen Tool. It’s a six-foot-long nylon pole with a telescoping handle. You can adjust the length of the pole so it will be at your height and give you more space to move around in your kitchen.

Then, there’s the Kitchen Cabinet Hanging Organizer which has hooks for hanging plates, bowls, cups, and other items. That way you can keep everything off of your countertops and out of your way when you’re cooking or cleaning up. And if you need some extra storage in your kitchen without cabinet space, then this is a good option as well! These gadgets were helpful for reaching my cabinets but I’m going to have to come up with another solution for all of my stuff now that it’s cleaned out!

Conclusion

If you’ve noticed that your kitchen cabinets are too high and you can’t reach what’s inside them, today we’re going to show you how to reach your high kitchen cabinets. This can be especially difficult for the elderly or disabled.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make reaching your high kitchen cabinets more convenient. For example, you can install a step stool or ladder to help you get the items you need. Another option is to install a pull-out shelf that will make it easier for you to reach what you need without having to stand on your tiptoes or climb onto a chair.

And if you’re still uncomfortable with the height of your cabinets, you can look into installing adjustable or rolling shelves. These will make it so that you can adjust them to the height that is comfortable for you.
